Buddhist Funerals

We offer a wide range of services for those wishing to have a Buddhist funeral within the Greater London area. We can organise the entire funeral for you or work in association with your chosen funeral director to perform a sensitive and dignified Buddhist service for your loved one or, help you organise a DIY funeral with friends and relatives.

Our services encompass offering advice to terminally ill people and their relatives, saying appropriate prayers at the bedside of someone who is approaching their death, providing information to families and professionals or those caring for the dying Buddhist and organising a meaningful Buddhist or inter-denominational service for the departed.

Buddhism in the West is still young, but due to the number of excellent resident and visiting teachers, the Buddha's teachings are flourishing. Many people consider themselves Buddhist and have the belief that death is as important as life. Because in death there is an opportunity for liberation from suffering.

In most Buddhist traditions great attention is given to the dying or recently departed and their relatives. Some Buddhists believe that a very subtle form of consciousness continues into a new life and that prayers said at the time of death can help result in a good rebirth.

We operate under the guidance of Lama Zangmo, the spiritual director of Kagyu Samye Dzong Tibetan Buddhist Centre in London. Lama Zangmo is from the Tibetan Kagyu school of Buddhism and is under the guidance of the lineage holders of this tradition in the UK: Akong Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe who reside at Samye Ling in Scotland.
